Here's various information and pictures I've received

JUNE 1, 2004
I own an old whites coin getter. I found your web site while looking for information on this detector. I would like to own another one for my wife. I find more coins than my brothers who own those $ 500.00 machines. I can follow behind them and find coins that their detectors don't pick up even with their discriminators turned off. I love the coin getter. I got mine for $1.00 at a garage sale about 10 years ago. I will never part with it. HAPPY HUNTING                Bill from Tacoma, WA

Hi,
In a folder I found some old White's advertisements of the late 70's, one in German and the other in French. In the German pricelist, the same spare coils were offered for both, the BC-3 (=Beachcomber 3) and CG-2 (Coingetter 2) detector. (See German ad 1 and 2).

The coil designations are:
T-6L-2D, diameter 15 cm (=about 6 inches), waterproof, price:160,- DM
T-10L-2D, diameter 25 cm (=about 10 inches), non waterproof, price: 215,- DM
T-15L-2D, diameter 38 cm (=about 15 inches), non waterproof, price: 215,- DM
I guess that the Beachcomber 3 and the Coingetter 2 , both TR detectors with a 2D (doublet) coil, must have similar electronic circuits.
Here are now the European prices of both Coingetter models:
GERMANY (Aquata, Berlin):
Coingetter CG-1 (BFO), price: 195,- DM
Coingetter CG-2 (TR), price: 295,- DM

FRANCE (SRFM at Montlhéry/France):
Coingetter CG-1 (BFO), price: 399,- francs
Coingetter CG-2 (TR), price: 590,- francs

Russ, You write that you probably have two Coingetter-1. What's the sound of your detectors? Do they produce high pitched and low pitched tones or does they produce a tone that becomes louder and louder when approaching a target? High and low pitched tone = Coingetter 1 (BFO). Louder tone = Coingetter 2 (TR).

Another device to distinguish both models is the number of wires leaving the electronic board towards the coil. The CG-2 must have at least 4 wires + shielding. A doublet sticker on the coil means that it is a 2D TR coil (= Coingetter 2).

In the last three years, I saw several Coingetters on ebay, but I couldn't see if they were BFO or TR models. Anyway, buying a Coingetter at ebay.com would cost me more than the original price because of the import taxes, VAT,… that's why I am looking for a Coingetter 2 in Europe, but so far without any luck.

I would like to know more about the history of the low budget TR metal detectors made by White's: Minimaster (1976), Coingetter 2 (around 1979), Beachcomber 4 (1978/79). But on the official White's forum, it is impossible to get clear answers concerning older style metal detectors.
I asked you about the discrimination of the Coingetter. You must know that all older style TR detectors have some slight built in iron rejection. Their threshold tone vanish when passing over an iron nail or produce a hacked sound. For larger iron items as well for alu cans, they produce a loud target sound. Don't worry about pull tabs. No detector is able to reject them without losing valuable stuff.

So far for today.

I once got a quote from Tony to repair my Coin Getter. He quoted $60.00 at the time. I believe this  is (or was) the authorized repair center for White's.
